Police Officer Wilmer Trosclair was electrocuted after responding to a location on Highway 51, near Pugh's Florist, for reports of a downed electric wire during a rain and wind storm around 2:00 a.m.
As he stepped out of his car to place flares, the line came in contact with his car and electrocuted him. A passerby notified police of the incident approximately 45 minutes later after driving past the scene and noticing Officer Trosclair on the ground.
Officer Trosclair had served with the Ponchatoula Police Department for three years. He was survived by his wife, son, father, three sisters, and one brother.
Officer Trosclair had been shot and wounded in the line of duty in April 1953 while attempting to arrest a former mental patient.
