Deputy Sheriff Robert Hagood while attempting to arrest a horse thief he had followed to Marion County and Cass County in East Texas.
The suspect was apprehended and lynched the following day. On December 2nd, 1875, the Hunt County Commissioners Court ordered the payment of a $500 reward to three men who had arrested and delivered the man to the county sheriff.
