Deputy Sheriff Jessie Blevins was shot and killed by a subject who was seeking revenge.
The subject man, whom Deputy Blevins' had arrested the week before for being drunk and disruptive at a dance, shot him in the head as he walked out of a grocery store in Peterstown. State troopers surrounded the subject at his home and took him into custody a short time later.
The man was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to five to 18 years in prison.
Deputy Blevins was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office for one year. He was survived by his wife, two children, parents, and eight siblings.
