Patrolman Louis Myers suffered a fatal heart attack following a foot pursuit of an escaped convict.
The escapee was spotted around U.S. 60, east of Marion, and Patrolman Myers went to the area to investigate. After failing to capture the escapee, Patrolman Myers returned to his patrol car and collapsed. He was unable to be resuscitated at the Crittenden County Hospital.
Officers were able to apprehend the escapee the next day.
Patrolman Myers was a United States Army WWII veteran and had served with the Marion Police Department for 4 years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and four children.
