Deputy Constable Oscal Lovitt was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a group of men who were disturbing a church meeting.

One of the men produced a handgun and fatally shot him. Other deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.

Deputy Constable Lovitt was survived by his wife and two children.

Oscal was my moms, Geneva Lovett Taylors uncle. She was only 4 years old when he was killed. She is now 97 and remembers the day he was shot. She was on the porch when he drove by and waved on his way to church. He was a good man and taken too soon.
