Calvin Wayne Jenks

Trooper Calvin Jenks was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of Highways 14 and 54 in Tipton County.

During the stop, Trooper Jenks smelled marijuana from the vehicle and was told by the driver that there were drugs in the center console. When he asked the passenger if he had any drugs, the man produced a handgun and opened fire, striking Trooper Jenks once in the head and once in the body.

Both men fled the scene but were arrested 13 hours later in Nashville, approximately 200 miles from where the shooting occurred. In December 2007, one suspect was found guilty of the facilitation of first degree murder and was subsequently sentenced to life in prison. The second shooter also received a life sentence in June 2008.

Trooper Jenks' body was found next to his patrol car by two hunters who were in the area. His patrol car's video camera recorded the entire incident.

Trooper Jenks had served with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for almost 3 years. He is survived by his wife, parents, four brothers, a sister, grandparents and a large extended family.

Trooper Jenks, I'm sorry for what happened to you that night 18 years ago, as the individuals who took your life were nothing short of cowardly, and they were corrupted from the inside out. From what I learned, is that they were so desperate to sell the drugs they had in their car that they were willing to kill for it, which means they were concerned about saving themselves. But despite that, it still doesn't change the fact they murdered a trooper in cold blood with no regrets, and if that doesn't describe how evil they were, I'm not sure what will. What bothers me in cases like these is that the officers in cases like these are young, and with you only being 24, you were a young man who was still advancing further in his career, and it was all taken away by some spineless drug fiends that never gave you a chance to fight back. Although I've only seen a small portion of your dash cam footage that showed moments before your death, it tells me all I need to know about how terrible it was, and considering I've seen countless videos on officers being harmed, that one is probably one of the worst, and it's up there as one of the most haunting. However, they didn't get away with what they did, as a couple hunters found you and called 911, as they sent your family in blue to catch them, thus resulting in you being avenged in death, and had those hunters not came across the scene, it would've gave them more time to get away. But thankfully Karma had other plans, as karma always goes after those who do wrong and harm police, as karma was creeping up on them to begin with, since they knew they'd get caught eventually. Despite that, I'd like to get into the positive side of things; To start off, you were one of the brave men in law enforcement to serve as a trooper, and you were one of the few who were just beginning life and already making it look easy to some who haven't achieved what you did, and the fact you were still a young kid and already faced danger each day says alot, since you were a young warrior at heart. I'm sure that during those almost 3 years of being on the job you were able to make a difference in that short amount of time, and you made sure that the highways were safe to traverse on and get the bad and dangerous people off as well. Although i myself am not a police officer, I understand and know that not all officers make it home each shift, and as unfortunate as it is, it's unfortunately true as you have people like them who are willing to kill just to save themselves, and for what? I'm not sure if that question will ever be solved, but it lingers in the air in cases like these. But rest assured, as slick as they thought they were, they were eventually caught as they've been sealed away from society, as the one who initially took your life got the life sentence as he should have. Though I think it should've been different, atleast we know that he is going to pay for his actions in the afterlife, as Karma will wait for him around the corner. In other words, I'd like to believe that now you're a guardian angel for your family, as you were a young man with the mentality of a warrior, and the skills of a sheepdog, as you weren't only protective of your family, but your people as well as you ensured that the citizens of Tennessee are safe with people like you protecting them, as you protect your family in spirit. I believe that majority of police officers are sent down by God, as they're sent down to serve and protect, and you Mr Jenks, were one of them as you're in God's army of angels. Though it's been some time since your passing, I'm sure that those who knew you will know that although you aren't physically here, you're there for them in spirit, as you're protecting those like your wife, along with your family as your parents raised a soldier who knew the dangers of this world, and went out anyway to make sure that no weapon formed against them shall prosper, and you destroyed all evil. As of now, may you rest in peace knowing that your service will forever be cherished, and as long as your name is said and you're remembered, you aren't truly dead as you live on in the minds and hearts of others. But as for your killers on a side note, they will have judgement day brought upon them, as karma will always get those who do wrong, as the penalty for taking away an officer is death. Just know that as long as time goes on and we move forward, you won't ever be forgotten, as your story will be passed on and learned by those who never knew you, and even the memorial site of where you passed will stay there as a sign of your dedication and service, as people will learn about you not for how you passed, but for who you were as a Trooper, and as a man who willingly served with honor, and someone who demonstrated what it meant to protect and serve. Rest Well Mr Jenks.
