Prison Guard A. D. Spivey was shot and killed during the escape of seven inmates from the Caledonia Prison Farm in Halifax County.
The inmates attacked another guard, took his weapon, and then shot Prison Guard Spivey as he attempted to stop the escape.
All seven inmates were apprehended within one day.
Prison Guard Spivey had served at the Caledonia Prison Farm for only 2 weeks. He was survived by his wife.
