Patrolman Arthur Berry was killed in an automobile crash at the intersection of Lafayette Street (modern-day East Kennedy Boulevard) and Ashley Drive while responding to a reported robbery with the police chief.
He was thrown from the vehicle and suffered severe internal injuries. He succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Patrolman Berry was a U.S. Army of WWI and had served with the Tampa Police Department for 20 years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, and grandchild.
