Michael James Bergan

Sheriff Mike Bergan was killed in an automobile crash on Fort Logan Road at 7:00 p.m.

He was returning from an investigation of a reported dog poisoning. On the snow-covered road, he hit a bump, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into a ditch.

Sheriff Bergan was a United States Army WWI veteran who had served with the Meagher County Sheriff's Department for 23 years and as sheriff for 21 of those years. He was survived by his wife and six children.

Sheriff Bergan,
On today, the 70th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps during World War I. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
