Kevin Michael Marshall

Trooper Kevin Marshall was shot and killed during an ERT operation at a barricade situation in Fremont involving a militia member.

The standoff began the previous day when officers attempted to serve a solicitation of prostitution warrant on a male. The suspect indicated he had a gun and held officers at bay. The Michigan State Police Emergency Response Unit was called to assist at the scene and attempted an entry after deploying tear gas inside the home. As the team entered, the suspect opened fire, grazing one officer and striking Trooper Marshall four times. One of the rounds penetrated his bulletproof vest, and one of the others struck him just below the vest.

Although the house was surrounded by dozens of law enforcement officers, the suspect was able to escape undetected after the shooting. A cache of weapons and survival gear was found in the rubble of his house, which caught fire and burned during the raid. The suspect was shot and killed one week later after police received information on his whereabouts. The Michigan State Police Emergency Response Team arrived at the scene and located the suspect in a vehicle. They ordered the man to stay inside the car, but he exited with a semi-automatic rifle. He was shot and killed when he pointed the rifle at the officers.

Trooper Marshall had served with the Michigan State Police for eight years and was assigned to the Newaygo Post. He is survived by his wife, two children, parents, and sister.

Trooper Marshall, i'm sorry for what happened to you on that day 22 years ago, as your death was cruel, and it was unneccessary, as it should've never happened. The actions that man did to you that day was vile, and it was more than evil, and i believe that had the officers there returned gunfire and took down that piece of garbage, it would've been taken care of more than sooner. But thankfully, you were avenged in death, as your brothers in blue executed him some time later as he tried to take their lives, but as it turned out, karma reached him in the end as he got what he deserved. It never made sense to me, and it probably never will, on the fact that people murder police simply due to the fact that they can't accept responsibility for their actions, or because they're so filled with anger and despair that they think it's right to take it out on law enforcement. In the end, those who kill police are corrupted to the core, and that their hearts are hardened to the point of no return. What disgusts me is the fact that not only was a Trooper taken that day, but a husband, a father, a son, a brother, and a soldier in blue who was protecting and serving the people of Michigan. It's terrible to know that your children unfortunately had to grow up without a father in their lives, and your wife had to sleep alone for the rest of her life, knowing that a good man in law enforcement was taken away that day, and a man who was just more than just a man behind a badge and hat. Though it's been well over 20 years, i'm sure your children have grown up to learn about who their father was, and to know that their father was a man who woke up everyday and faced danger head-on while providing for his family, and that they carry you in their hearts each day as they progress and do great things in life. Another thing i'd like to mention is that you spent nearly 10 years in law enforcement and as a trooper, which is an accomplishment that some people don't have, considering that not only becoming an officer in itself is a difficult and challenging thing to do, but to keep going for almost 10 years says alot, meaning that you were dedicated to the public and protecting others who couldn't defend themselves. You were a sheepdog to those in need, and you were a warrior that ensured the public's safety and made sure that those on the streets could go home safely each day knowing you're protecting them and preventing evil from reaching them. I think that despite it being a long time since you passed, i'd like to believe that your impact is still felt even today, and that people who learn about you and the things you did add onto how many people will remember you and keep your memory alive, and some may even take inspiration from you and wanna be like you. As for the person that took your life however, just know that they're receiving their punishment in the afterlife as we speak. Those who kill police think that they can get away with it, but in reality, Police are God's soldiers sent on earth to protect and serve, and show them what it means to serve and protect. On top of that, taking away a police officer of any type comes with a penalty, it being death, as Karma and judgement day comes to those who harm or kill Police. Although i personally don't wish death on people, but for cases like these where the suspects hide in rooms and be cowardly and have the audacity to harm an officer, i can say that crazy people like that deserve to be put down, because you can't fix what's already been broken or corrupt, and the suspect in this case was that exact example. I think that on a positive side, you knew that each day when you got ready for work, you would face danger. And by knowing this, you didn't allow fear to consume you or stop you from protecting and serving, as you had a different level of determination to keep the streets and communities clean. Although i personally never met you or knew you since you died a few years before i was born, i think that you were somebody that demonstrated what it meant to not let fear or doubt stop you from going in the line of danger, considering that even in your last moments, you fought till the very end, and if that doesn't tell people how brave you were, i don't know what will considering you fought death till the end and refused to give up. Considering i have a few people from Michigan that were around at the time of your death, i'd like to personally salute you, knowing that you protected people even like some of my family from danger, as you have more of my respect for that as you really were one-of-a-kind, and there isn't many people like you in the world that are as brave and fearless like you. I'm sure as of now your children have grown up and moved on to do wonderful things in life to honor you, and that they carry your legacy with you in their hearts, and that they know that a hero raised them at one point in their lives. But as of now, may you rest in peace knowing that your service will forever be cherished, and that no matter how much time passes, you will still be remembered and others will learn about your story and who you were as a Trooper and a man. For your killer however, He's currently rotting in hell, and that he has gotten his punishment for taking away one of God's soldiers, and that your killer will never ever hurt anybody again, as he was thankfully put down like the dog that he was. Just know that no matter what happens, as long as your name is said and you're remebered and that those like me who aren't in Law Enforcement keep your name and memory alive, you aren't truly dead nor forgotten, as those who don't let any danger reach their communites and try and tear it apart shall be remembered, and that they should be remembered not by how they died, but by how they lived and protected and served the people they once knew. Rest Well Mr. Marshall
