Agent Yesenia Nieves-Ruiz was shot and killed when a group of men attempted to rob her and her uncle after they left an ATM and arrived at their house in the Bella Vista neighborhood of Bayamon.
She had just left work and was still in uniform when the incident took place. Agent Nieves-Ruiz was shot when she attempted to stop the robbery.
Agent Nieves-Ruiz had served with the Puerto Rico Police Department for four years and was assigned to the Robbery Division of the Bayamon CIC. She is survived by her parents. Her father was a retired officer with the agency.
