Earl Alison Hall

Sergeant Earl Hall suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after responding to a burglary alarm in the downtown area of Austin.

After determining the call was a false report, Sergeant Hall and his partner returned to the station to attend a meeting. Sergeant Hall collapsed during the meeting and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died approximately one hour later.

Sergeant Hall had served with the Austin Police Department for 21 years and had previously served with the Orange Police Department for 3.5 years and the University of Texas at Austin Police Department for 4.5 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Twenty years ago I was stunned and found myself in tears at the news, Earl.

Remembered our posting as “roomies” in Theft and your visual aids, used to demonstrate to a victim that she was important to you but had to wait her turn in light of our massive case loads. Seeing the look on her face as you ceremoniously dumped pile after pile of folders on the floor was … well, perfection. And perfectly Earl.

Remembered you telling me, “f*** it, roomie. It’s time to promote.” And promote we did. Sergeancy agreed with us both. Unfortunately, you “retired” first. I’d have loved to have a joint party with you when I left in 2006, but such is life.

Well, partner, I’ll see you when I see you.
