The suspect then barricaded himself in his home but was apprehended during a tactical operation several hours later.
The suspect, 54, was found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide and sentenced to life without parole. He later died in prison.

One of my jobs along with fellow employees… is to help maintain the SPRING BRANCH CEMETERY in which Deputy Shannon is interred.. everytime I went there be it by myself, or with others my heart would always sink a little just mowing the area around his headstone… as there is a metal hook decoration behind his headstone… where I took a plastic bouquet of flowers that someone had just laid on top of the nearby waste receptacle… I wiped it off as gently as I could.., and placed it upon the hook… to my knowledge it’s still there… I know this sounds crazy… as I never met “Mikeee”…. As we share the same “nickname” in our lives… I spent 24 years in the military… and all my friends and CO’s called me that.. I just wanted to say how sorry I am having heard how he passed… your up there now, Deputy Shannon…. But just know that I lovingly tend your resting place as well as the other dearly departed…here on earth.. when it’s time to take care of it.. I hope to see you one day when it’s my turn to meet HIM… God bless you and rest you, Michael.. ☦️
sincerely,
