Night Patrolman George Loper was shot and killed while on his beat at the intersection of Charles Avenue and Willow Street in Pauls Valley at 12:30 a.m.
A vehicle pulled up to him, and the occupants called him over. When Patrolman Loper approached, the occupants opened fire, killing him. The following week, the same four suspects, two men and two women, robbed a bank and shot and killed Deputy James Wilson of the Grady County Sheriff's Department.
The two men were convicted of murder and executed in the electric chair on June 10, 1937.
Patrolman Loper was a United States Army WWI veteran and had served with the Pauls Valley Police Department for three weeks. He was survived by his wife and child.
