Sergeant Barry was struck and killed by a vehicle while standing on post.
Sergeant Barry was assigned as the supervisor for the 9-A Precinct and was standing on Broadway, just south of 72nd Street in a "car stop safety zone" when he was struck, knocked down and run over by a commercial auto being operated in a reckless manner by an unlicensed driver.
Sergeant Barry was taken to Roosevelt Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Sergeant Barry was assigned to the 9th Precinct and was survived by his wife and three daughters.
