Gary Grant Scott

Sergeant Gary Scott was killed in an automobile crash while participating in a vehicle pursuit on US 301 near Sylvania.

Sergeant Scott attempted to pull over a vehicle at 11:30 p.m., but the driver did not stop. The fleeing vehicle sideswiped another car while speeding through a stop sign. While performing a sudden evasive maneuver to avoid colliding with the fleeing vehicle, Sergeant Scott lost control of his patrol car and struck another vehicle.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene but wrecked several miles away and fled on foot. Two suspects were taken into custody the next day. The driver was convicted of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving without insurance, and two counts of hit and run.

Sergeant Scott was a United States Air Force veteran and had served with the Sylvania Police Department for 28 years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son. His son serves as a deputy for a neighboring agency.

On today, the 25th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
