Gary Caponera

Undersheriff Gary Caponera suffered a fatal heart attack while conducting a training course.

During the training, he became ill and was taken to a local hospital by fellow officers. He was pronounced dead at the hospital due to a massive heart attack.

Undersheriff Caponera was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and had served in law enforcement for 28 years. He had previously served with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and Adams County Sheriff's Office. He was survived by his wife, two grown children, and two grandchildren.

On today, the 25th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
