Aviation Supervisor Pedro Rodriguez-Franco was killed in an aircraft accident while attempting to move an airplane to a safe location in preparation for Hurricane Georges.
The plane he was piloting collided with another Customs Service plane over the sea between Puerto Rico and Curacao. Both damaged planes attempted to return to Puerto Rico, however, Supervisor Rodriguez-Franco's plane crashed into the sea one mile east of Mona Island. The copilot was rescued, however, Supervisor Rodriguez-Franco was killed.
The second plane was able to land safely in Aquadilla.
Agent Rodriguez-Franco had served with the United States Customs Service for nine years. He is survived by his wife and three children.
