Jacob Uhle

Patrolman Jacob Uhle was shot and killed by a man who had just robbed the Marine Bank of $13,000 at Frenchman and Chartres Streets.

On December 30th, 1924, the man who murdered Patrolman Uhle was shot and killed in a gunfight with railroad detectives and city police police at the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Depot in Mobile, Alabama.

A notebook found on the man following his death contained a handwritten confession that he had murdered Special Agent Thomas Griffin, of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Police in Des Moines, Iowa, on November 15th, 1923. The confession stated "In case I get killed I want the truth to come out because two innocent men were sent to prison for the crime."

An investigation was unable to verify the confession and the original convictions and life sentences of Special Agent Griffin's murder were upheld by the Supreme Court.
