Police Officer Jerry St. Clair succumbed to gunshot wounds received three days earlier in a shootout with a robbery suspect at 1st Street and Harvard Avenue in Tulsa.

During the investigation, Detective Sylvester Cormack and Detective Ben Johnston were shot and killed when they attempted to arrest two men wanted in connection with Officer St. Clair's murder. One of those suspects was apprehended at the scene, and the second was arrested in Idaho.

The suspect who murdered Officer St. Clair was later apprehended in California. He was convicted of first-degree murder and executed in the electric chair on November 17, 1949.

Officer St. Clair had served with the Tulsa Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife and three children.
