Policeman Leo Shonrock was struck and killed by a vehicle, being pursued by state troopers, while manning a roadblock on a bridge.
A vehicle occupied by a family of five was approaching the roadblock when the suspect rearended them at a high rate of speed. The impact sent their car crashing into Policeman Shonrock's patrol car, as he was getting out, crushing him against the bridge. The gasoline tank exploded on the family car killing three. A state trooper suffered burns as he pulled the other two from the car.
The 22-year-old suspect was convicted of four counts of manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
