Special Agent George Shindle was stabbed to death while investigating a bootlegging operation in Oakley, Kansas.
He was in the railroad yards questioning the wife of a suspect when he was slashed in the upper leg by the suspect, who was armed with a razor. Agent Shindle died the following month while still undergoing treatment for his wounds.
Special Agent Shindle had served with the Union Pacific Police Department for 12 years. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
