Deputy Scott was shot and killed as he and other deputies attempted to arrest three robbery suspects. The suspects had blocked off a street and were robbing motorists after tying them up in a field. When the officers approached the suspects used the hostages as human shields as they opened fir on the officers. Deputy Scott was struck in the head and killed. Before fleeing, the suspects robbed Deputy Scott as he lay dying in his patrol car.
Two suspects commandeered a car and forced the owner to drive them to Seattle. Before getting out at a street corner one suspect killed and robbed his companion. He was captured on May, 19, 1920, in Vancouver after he committed a murder in that city.
On October 27, 1920, the suspect was sentenced to hang in British Columbia. Three months later his sentence was commuted to life.
Deputy Scott was survived by his wife and two children.
