The other two suspects escaped, but were captured the next day at a cottage at Fox Lake, 12 miles southeast of LaPorte, Indiana. One of the suspects had used the cottage for a hideout after committing a bank robbery 11 years earlier.
All three suspects were convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to 199 years in prison. View all 23 ReflectionsMy grandmother was my uncle Tony's sister Emily. She told me a lot of stories about him and the tragedy that ended his life and how it affected everyone not just in our family but the community. I love how Northlake Police Department is keeping their memories alive and their story. When my grandmother died and I went threw her belongings she had a photo album with every newspaper article that was wrote about the case. I still have it. Along with my uncles picture in my living room. I never got to meet him but his story has made a big impact on my life.
