K9 Blek was strangled by a robbery subject he was pursuing in Houston.

Five subjects, two of them juveniles, fled from a house on Stone Mesa Drive they were burglarizing when officers arrived. The subjects ran into a wooded marsh, and K9 Blek was deployed to find the subjects. Due to the noise of an overhead helicopter, K9 Blek did not hear his handler's commands and ran further ahead of the officers. When K9 Blek cornered one of the juvenile subjects, another juvenile subject approached K9 Blek from behind and choked him.

All five subjects were apprehended. The subject who strangled K9 Blek was charged with interference with a police animal. Because he was a juvenile, the court records are sealed.

K9 Blek had served with the Harris County Constable's Office - Precinct 4 for three years.
