K9 Sergeant Dinks was struck and killed by a jitney bus near the intersection of Broad Street and Pine Street at about 10:30 pm.
The driver of the bus did not stop. A traffic policeman witnessed the incident but was unable to save K9 Sergeant Dinks.
K9 Sergeant Dinks had served as the mascot of the Richmond Police Department for 12 years and was cared for at the Second District.
