K9 Dasher died from injuries sustained two days earlier when his handler's patrol car was struck from behind during a traffic stop on I-85 near Mile Marker 4.
Dasher was secured inside the vehicle's kennel when the car was struck. His handler was outside of the patrol car and not injured.
