K9 Aren was stabbed to death during the apprehension of a subject on Whitney Avenue, near the Martin Luther King Jr. Busway, in Wilkinsburg.
Officers had engaged the subject in a foot pursuit following an incident at the Wilkinsburg transit station. K9 Aren located the subject on Whitney Avenue and attempted an apprehension. The subject fatally stabbed K9 Aren before being shot and killed by officers.
