K9 Poncho died while searching for three felony suspects in a wooded area near Back Beach Road and Alf Coleman Road.
Poncho became separated from his handler during the search and failed to respond to calls to return. A large search was initiated by he could not be located. His remains and collar was located two years later but it could not be determined how he died.
K9 Poncho had served with the Panama City Beach Police Department for one year.
