Able bodied women and men know their professional roles where honesty and indifference cannot be working together. Honesty yes the other of course not. Dade County was under a dark cloud of one man's fits and negative ferocity against the establishment. All you did, Officer Cook, was to try and stop him from inflicting more pain and hurt upon the civilians and those fellow officers whom you served with your heroic efforts. May 16, 1979 tested character, conviction and your humility that were your traits of passion and hard work Nothing is achieved by bloodshed and nothing ever comes out of gunfire except evil. You were a studious man, Officer Cook and no doubt were headed for greater aspirations if not for one day of senseless violence which ended your life and career. Just appalling and tragic! Clinging to your faith and courage, your precious life and years, Officer Cook, were well respected, well regarded and most well spent fighting those humane and sometimes nasty spats when domestic disputes can undo a community. Society, mankind and humanity don't have the wherewithal to at times deal with tension, unrest and just a plain lack of honor,character and decency. Well that changed when you began your law enforcement career with Metro-Dade Police Department. Down at city hall in Miami wa s a shirt inscribed with your special and most heroically blessed name officer William C. Cook, EOW May 16, 1979, it reads as follows: "I died for you." Dade County's one of many other fine and well bred officers, dignity, desire and the right makings to create and to craft a peace and harmony of unity for your community, Officer Cook. Your life, career and enhancement left on those streets trying to stop mayhem, chaos and bedlam. Ugliness reared its head and you stood your ground trying to resolve a major conflict where officers, your comrades nearly lost their own lives and civilians were wounded all by this wayward and ornery fellow. Never forgotten. Never easy for your family left to mourn your loss, the grief, anger, sadness and sorrow like a snakebite. Victimized while performing your official duties, we salute your underlying heroism and unending proficient undertaking and understanding of what needed to be completed to bring about change and law and order. Competent and a vital cog turning the wheels of justice, trust and truth.
