Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

When the walls start chipping you know it's time to paint them. When crime gets a bit out of hand, you know that is the time to place more police officers in the area to serve and to protect with integrity and honesty. The honorable and pious understand their roles. They go out on patrol navigating around an area to persevere and preserve what needs policing. You were a treasured man, Officer Cook. A family member who heroically saved lives of your comrades and those you watched over. Dignity, desire and devotion have all stemmed from an outstanding upbringing and there will never be any doubt that you had the right power and inner strength to handle the rigors of your job. You'll be saluted and honored for taking the bull by the horns and endeavoring to corral corruption and kayos before it got worse. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Prudent and proficient must be in all officers' patrol vehicles. It may save a life or two. You were a peacemaker and a warrior.

Lately, we in the United States have been experiencing the flames of violence perpetrated against decent and honest public servants. Criminals don't function with their glasses quite full and for the mayhem they commit, answers just are not easy to come by. In Dade County you had most solutions and resolutions to the problems that confronted the citizens, Officer Cook. By staying within the boundaries of common sense, rationale and dignity situations could be headed off before they festered into something more harmful. A careful person plans for things. A careless person dives right in not knowing full well the ramifications of their actions. By being committed, Officer Cook, the peace and quiet was realized all by the virtues of your excellent character, valor and the commitment to both pride and in satisfaction in doing a splendid job. All handled professionally and very faithfully. You were one of the driving forces behind the scenes who brought class, charisma and decency to a position that has validated your legacy. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Hopeful and hospitable. You and Karen were just that, Officer Cook. After all you both worked in professions that called for optimism and common courtesy. Nursing is not a simple profession as not everyone is cut out to be a nurse. It takes a certain persona to structure one's life and career where having a good bedside manner is required. Police work also requires responsibility and the acute awareness to be able to deal with certain matters in a split second way. Officer Cook, both you and Karen were two level headed individuals who maintained honesty and integrity at all times, thereby making your challenges a bit less stressful. To be able and available to lead other through crises calls upon one's inclinations of ingenuity and intellect. You must have a passion and yet act compassionately for peace and unity, medicine and ethics to properly function together in balance. Dade County was extremely fortunate to have in its midst two able bodied people of character, conviction and courage. It must be straight from your hearts which it always was. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook. You were a serene and conscientious officer who strived for quality and excellence a tall times. A man of humanity whose humility was the cornerstone of both your life and professional career.

The divine fear God, commit to honor, uphold righteousness and are dignified and honorable enough to battle the enemies of evil that await those who are not careful. Being careless and dishonest can only lead to more sources of trouble. We want our most brave and distinguished officers to battle tooth and nail for our liberty, peace and unity. That's just what you did, Officer Cook. You laid the foundations of fairness, firmness and integrity within the general radius of Dade County and its residents. You were a fearless warrior and a savior who was well respected, cherished and possessed the proper morals and character to carry out your professional jobs freely and without obstacles. You have been saluted for coming to the aid of your colleagues and the civilians who were involved that awful day of May 16, 1979, when you heroic performed as you were trained to do. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Undeniable and unfathomable what has transpired lately in wake of quite a few police officers being killed in the line of duty. The minds of the wicked strike when you least expect. The thoughts and prayers this holiday time go out to their loving families, colleagues and close personal friends. Our country has seemingly reached epidemic proportions in terms of these brave and honest women and men laying something on the line for peace and prosperity rather than hostility to set in. A life is obviously so precious and yet its integrity and dignity is violated time and time again. Thank God, Officer Cook, you were humane and humble, honorable and loyal to your professional comrades and to Dade County at large. You steered peace and conviction within its parameters where you dared to protect and serve the sacred trust and hope of all mankind. To dream the impossible dream, to fight with unbearable sorrow, that sadness now is over your untimely passing through the very violence you took an affirmation to thwart. No one will ever forget your decency, class or character to maintain control over a situation and to resolve to fix what needed fixing. A job done right. A life and career performed and lived in a first class manner. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. To live on in the hearts and thoughts of those who admired you and cherished your memories, Officer Cook. You gave every ounce of endeavor right until the end. A foundation and legacy bearing the cornerstones of humility, compassion, faithfulness and determination all exceeding our expectations. There is never smooth sailing, but, with your beloved soul watching over us protect, perhaps their faith and stamina will not quiver. It must remain unshakable and unrelenting. The pursuits that will yield the best outcomes. Society has its heroes and heroines guarantees from the heavens above. You are among the many angelic saviors observing the happenings.

You were there for some epic battles in this war over violence, its evil casting terror, turmoil and torment where it should not be free to roam. Service with pride. Protection with a smile. Accredited and acclimated. It all runs along the lines of astuteness and professionalism through and through. When brave and courageous, noble and honorable public servants go out and patrol our streets and their venues in search of peace and prosperity, they too look for crime and anything remotely associated with it. They help rid these areas of violence through due diligence and ever present vigilance. You focused on your jobs at hand, Officer Cook and through humility and integrity you made things happen. Reality was brought into a much clearer focus than ever before. Dade County, its health, vitality, peace and wisdom were humanely restored by your heroic efforts my neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook. Your legacy was the appreciation from the citizens of a job well done and the inner strength of courage from your heart. One cherished as much as is your treasured soul a sit continues flying high everyday. Your gift to humanity is the day your loving parents brought you home from the hospital after conceiving you. The special gift of life and a career, never a moment frittered away. Dade County and for that matter the entire police world won't ever forget you. You were a special gentleman, Officer Cook. Your smile said it all. Pride and proud. Commitment and character. Conviction and compassion. They travel down the trails of tenacity when torment rises up to confront, confound and confuse us. You stood tall, Officer Cook, when the going got tough, you put the metal to the pedal. This is precisely when any officer's mettle is tested. It's a challenge so let us pray those who have taken over your watch do so as bravely, humbly and as loyally as you. A uniform and badge worn distinctly and deservedly. The determination, devotion and dedication were all accounted for.

The learning curve for most is larger. Why? Because officers, they must see the big picture to size up a situation and make a sometimes split second decision to act decisively. We, the ordinary citizen does not always witness what our bravest and most courageous servants see. Seeing is believing. The power to rationalize is to be utilized in order not to jeopardize lives and property. You did everything you could for Dade County folks, Officer Cook. You maintained faithfulness, loyalty and fairness for one and all. No one could expect as much, you answered all your roles and tasks efficiently and with clarity. Your heart was filled with compassion and yet unwavering commitment which is now being cherished and so honored by all mankind. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

You possessed a power, Officer Cook, it helped you catch evil and through your integrity and dignity all Dade County residents remain safe and sound this day and we pray for always. When a brave young man goes out on a mission of peace and unity, they don't look to come back empty-handed. Failure cannot be the optimum word when preserving the public trust. Rather, fruition must be any officer's dignity and integrity to resolve any situation that comes their way. Most public servants have plenty on their professional dockets already, yet, experience and expediency are mandatory when crises arise. You handled most if not all tasks, Officer Cook, gamefully, gallantly and most astutely. The peace and unity in Dade County rested comfortably and confidently in your hands and feet. The truth of a humble hero was spoken and most if not all residents understood its message. Police are not preachers, as they too must answer to an even higher authority. Better to be tenacious than be a terror. If only the one's who seem to subscribe in committing evil. They are the ones who need to be taken off the streets, tried and convicted in a court of law. History should not need to repeat itself. Here in Dade County you were highly thought of, Officer Cook. Why? because you had honesty, integrity and dignity within your personal and professional demeanor. Those officers who support good character, conduct and are courageous enough to take a stand against violence are the ones who will hopefully deliver the peace and unity where it's needed the most. The foundation of your heroic legacy, Officer Cook, is crystal clear. I know, Officer Cook, that you were a very devout and righteous gentleman and a marvelous police officer. We know there is a God in heaven, the Almighty, Our Lord and Creator. He watches and keep His video recorder on permanently. Make no mistake another colleague of yours in San Antonio, Texas, Detective Benjamin Marconi, was shot and killed while writing a traffic ticket for someone. Another person unrelated came up to his patrol car and ambushed him, shooting him twice in the head and fleeing the scene. You will be caught. Do yourself and the police department a favor and surrender. There was no quit in you, Officer Cook. Honesty, integrity and bravery never take vacations otherwise those who are intent in launching themselves into violence would have a seemingly free reign to do so. Dade County and its people were in faithful and respectful hands while you served and attempted to conquer this wave of terror. You will be fondly remembered for your bravery, intelligence and maturity beyond your years that allowed you to pursue professionalism as it should be carried out. A man of character, quality commitment and heroism should humbly be well received when God waits at His gates to place His angelic wings on you to now police His golden streets, there nothing will ever harm you again. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. You never surrendered to temptation, Officer Cook, your tenacity and uniform and badge you wore was represented with only the qualities of humility and real courage all from within your heart. The ideals and dreams, your aspirations are now our hopes and optimism that peace will be a finality. Not just a stab in the dark.

If you complain God will give you something to complain about. Just relax and take things in stride and more often than not they will workout. Plans and their preparations need time to take effect. Fruition can only be achieved by their due and careful diligence and hopeful and faithful vigilance. Being the honorable and loyal public servant, Officer Cook, you allowed your thought process along with your dignity and integrity to take you around Dade County providing and preserving the peace and security the residents asked for. Great people, those modest and reserved let their actions and passionate labors of love and respect speak for themselves. They did. And you conversed your message, Officer Cook, quite sagely and efficiently. Now if we could just learn from our miscues and move on to properly finish off our missions with as much respect and admiration that you possessed for your official position. You exceeded expectations and yet there will be this emptiness and profound sadness, Officer Cook, that you are not physically here to complete those tasks which will further advance the ideals and morals of our society. Police work is not for everybody. It is not routine, simple or mundane. It requires thinking, good health and the right kind of character, commitment and class which you had to navigate and to lead other members of your division and department through the trials and tribulations. Realizations, ramifications, rationalizations and restorations all fall under the descriptions of any officer's duties. A lot on one's professional plate and plenty said. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Courtesy and compassion went well together just as humility and humanity. They work well when balanced fairly and firmly in carrying out justice for all. Serving a community or any locale takes teamwork, effort and unwavering and unselfish energy to get things progressing as they should. During your watch, Officer Cook, things functioned like a well oiled machine. Dade County never forgets nor overlooks their heroes and heroines so righteous in their ways, it is in the lives they led by exemplary conduct. Yours, Officer Cook, was stop notch and first class.
