We met Agent David Christopher Maland at the VT border when returning from Quebec to MA this past summer. In the absence of any traffic we got a chance to talk for a while. We had our dog with us. This agent was unusually personable and kind, and he clearly loved dogs. Therefore, he was very memorable. A model for all border patrol agents. So very sad to recognize him in the photo when reading about his being killed on duty. A life can be taken so quickly, cruelly and senselessly. I never met a nicer border agent anywhere when reentering the country by car or at any airport.

What a shame..... Nearly a home town boy.... We just moved into the area a few years ago, but this loss hits home even more knowing David grew up in a community nearby. So many senseless acts against those who protect the rest of us. David will be remembered by many for his bravery & service. Rest in peace, brother. Unfortunately, there are many of your brothers already waiting and certainly more to come. Condolences to the service, co-workers, and especially family.
