Reflections for Police Officer Bryan Scott Hurst
As a native of Ohio I know the City of Columbus well. As I visit friends during the 4th of July in Ohio I see the same problems we see in New York. To the family of Officer Bryan Hurst I send my deepest sympathy. He was a brave man who gave his life protecting someones, wife, husband, son and daughter's life.

Our hearts are very heavy as we read of yet another life lost so needless. We can share in your loss and tell you we know what pain and heartache you feel. We lost our only child Police Officer Shane Miller May 15 of this year. he was 27 years old. Had only worked 6 hours as a police officer.
We will pray that God will give Bryans wife and family the strength to go through the lonely days ahead. Trust in God, hold close your family and friends and always know you have a brotherhood and family survivors who will be there for you.
We know Officer Bryan is at rest now. His tour here on earth is over and he is with Shane our son and all the other HEROS. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL IS OUR PRAYER.

The cops here in Washington heard about Bryan's tragic death because we heard the coward had fled Ohio and came to our town to be with his girlfriend. You should know that all of us--all our officers--searched feverishly for the coward. Knowing nothing about Bryan, all we knew is he shot one of our own, and nothing else mattered. Now that the coward is caught he will have his justice, and Bryan will have his peace, and the rest of us can take the time now to learn more about Bryan's life and service.
The police family extends around the globe. That's why the cowards have nowhere to run to. And that's why you'll have the support of our family--your family--no matter where you are.

Bryan. Without question, you fought the warrior's battle. You will forever stand as an example of "to serve and protect", staples of the profession we have chosen. I can still hear you at roll call: "Good lookin' out." Brother, that is exactly what you did in service, and in life.
We will carry you and your family forward in your honor. Taps will sound, but you will never be forgotten. You will never walk alone.

How sad it is to hear of another brother so violently taken away in the blink of an eye. It is an unspeakable injustice that one man providing for his family met such an untimely end. We shed our tears for Officer Hurst, and mourn for his wife and baby. Please rest assured that all of his fellow officers-including those he may have never known- are mourning with you and will give our support the best way we can. We will honor his memory and continue on in our profession bravely, with Officer Hurst in our hearts.

I am honored by the sacrifice of our brother. He gave his life serving something greater than himself. As do all of us who serve. There is no greater honor than that sacrifice. You go with God Officer Hurst, go rest high on that mountain your work on earth is done. I will pray for your Wife and child, and for your family. I will make this promise to you, I will not hide from my duties, I will motivate my Officers, I will train my Officers, we will not forget your sacrifice and WE WILL HOLD THE LINE. God Bless you Bryan.

My deepest sympathy to the Hurst family. My only hope is that Bryan's Department and friends stay close and help his family in this time of need. I lost my son who left 4 children behind, the youngest was also 6 months old. It is very hard, but the Blue Family will help keep her Daddy's memory alive just as they will Bryan's. God help you through this very hard and difficult time.
