A friend of many brothers

I had the great honor of serving as a USMC MP military working dog handler with Bryan in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii from 1992-1994. Bryan and I were roommates for much of that time. He will always be a true friend and a brother to me. His memory will remain with me until the Lord takes my last breath. Then, Bryan and I will once again serve and protect together, this time from the other side of the pearly gates. I'm certain that he is standing a post there now, with his always-faithful working dog "Robby".
I also had the pleasure of meeting Bryan's mother, stepfather, little brother and sister once in Hawaii. To you and his other family and friends I express my sorrow for the events that took our young Marine and Police Officer. I am very proud of my friend for being a servant of your community.
To Marissa and Malia; words can not bring back this special man into your lives. I can only hope that my promise to eternally remember him adds comfort in your greatest time of need.
To all police officers and servicemen, thank you for your contributions.
Semper Fidelis and God bless this great nation.

On August 8th of 2000 Robert Stanze ended his watch... We still can't believe it will be 5 years this August. One thing we have grown to appreciate, is the love of community, family and friends. Don't be afraid to rely on them. Reach out if you need us. We will forever be by your side.
Our prayers are with Officer Hurst's family, his friends and coworkers. God Bless you all. Officer Hurst you are in a better place, find Bobby...and talk about your daughter and his twins and Wil..he will watch out for you, show you the ropes... and please, watch out for all of the rest of us. Every Police Officer performs one act of bravery....when they take their oath...after that, it's all in the line of duty. THANK YOU for your bravery and sacrifice.

Bryan,
People sometimes wonder what their funeral would be like. Who would attend? How would one be remembered? I know you were looking down on us. 3500 people showed up. It was pouring rain, and the sky lit up with lighting. Your family paid tribute to you. Your best friend, Donnie, honored you like I've never seen before. He made us cry, and laugh. Then he had a couple hundred officers come together at a bar to celebrate your life, together. I've often heard many officers complain about the lack of commradarie. Hours after you were laid to rest, we all came together. Cops from all ranks, and departments, in one room. Everyone had a great time as we came together, as a family, and honored you. I've never seen that before. It was you who brought us together like that. That day was my birthday. My 32nd. I will never forget that day and I will never foget you. I will raise the Marine Corps flag over our substation on the Marine Corps birthday every year until I retire, in memory of you. God bless you, brother Marine, fellow Officer. We will take care of your family and will continue to take care of eachother.

Bryan,
I can't quit thinking about your funeral. As Bronson said, "The heavens cried all day". However, at the service we laughed and cried, and remembered all the good, funny things that we loved about you, as a man. Before we graduated from the Academy, you told me that you were proud of me. Bryan, not nearly as proud as I am to have known and served with someone as brave and true as you.
I'll see you again at the FINAL ROLL CALL. Until then rest easy, my brother, we have it from here. God Bless You!

I worked with Bryan as a USMC MP in Hawaii in the mid ninties. I was a Watch Commander and he was a K-9 Handler. All the K-9 guys were "squared away" and Bryan fit in perfectly. I remember him as a soild trooper. I first saw his memorial and did not recoginze him. I mentioned to my wife how sad it was that this young officer with a wife and young baby went down fighting to the end while working an off-duty detail. It was'nt until today that I received an e-mail from one of the Bryan's old K-9 Marine's informing me that it was Bryan who was killed. I pulled the memorial back up and noticed him immediately upon seeing his picture. I felt sick to my stomach and then discovered that Bryan's daughter and my 9 month old shared the same beautiful name "Malia". a little remembrance from our years spent in Hawaii. I can't bear to think of never seeing my Malia again but would be assured as Bryan's daughter will that while growing up she knew her Dad was a "true warrior and hero". This is the second time in two years that I had a fellow co-worker fall in the line of duty. I now have one of their memorial's taped to my patrol car windshield to remind me everytime I work, to be extra careful and enjoy every minute I have with my friends and family. God Bless Bryan and his wife and daughter. Semper Fi Bra!

“If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principle difference between a dog and a man." — Mark Twain
You lifted many "starving dogs", some bit you, most didn't. Those that didn't appreciate your love, friendship and LOYALTY, and those will be the ones that miss you the most. Those that did can't change it now, and will have to live with their decisions. Such is the nature of life and our work, my friend. Things aren't always what they seem, but you know everything now and are in a place where you are at peace, regardless of others' actions. Time may pass, but the memories will last a lifetime.
Forever a Friend

Thank God that there are men like Bryan that are willing to protect us and stand on that wall. I am a former State Trooper and My son is a Columbus Police Officer that Knew Bryan. I personnely did not know Bryan, but that makes no diffenrence in the way that I feel for an officer lost. My students all know of him, The brave way that he conducted himself and the family that was left behind. In class we all pray for him, and all officers that are there to protect us. God bless him and his family.
