To whom it may concern,

I respectfully ask that parole be denied for Amwati Pepi Mckenzie, inmate #115221, who brutally assassinated Patrolman Jerome Victor Haaf on September 25, 1992.

Patrolman Jerome Haaf was at the Pizza Shack in his uniform when inmate #115221 and other members of his gang ambushed him. They shot him twice in the back while he was reading a newspaper. When an employee pursued the suspects, they fired at the employee, hitting the restaurant's windows.

Inmate #115221, a Vice Lords Gang member, had already been convicted of at least one robbery before his murder conviction. From testimony at his and his accomplices' trials, the killing of Patrolman Haaf was planned. After midnight on September 25, 1992, five subjects headed to the Pizza Shack. Inmate #115221 rode in a car with inmate #172686. Three other subjects traveled in a second car. The vehicles stopped at 31st St. and 17th Ave in Minneapolis, where inmate #115221 and inmate #172686 exited their vehicle and walked toward the Pizza Shack. Once inside, they fired several shots, killing Patrolman Haaf and injuring another man sitting at the table with Patrolman Haaf.

Patrolman Jerome Haaf was a United States Air Force veteran and a dedicated officer who served with the Minneapolis Police Department for 30 years. Within his community, he was a well-liked, respected, and highly regarded officer. More importantly, Patrolman Haaf was a devoted son, brother, husband, father to a daughter and two sons, and grandfather to two grandchildren.

This inmate's violent behavior should preclude any parole consideration. Also, in 1996, inmate #115221 was convicted of possessing a weapon in prison during a fight with another inmate. Cold-blooded murderers of public safety officials should never be considered for release.

Parole is a privilege and not a right. As a concerned citizen and in the interest of public safety, I again respectfully ask that you, DENY PAROLE, to inmate #115221. Justice demands that he spend every remaining day of his FULL LIFE SENTENCE in prison.
