Reflections for Police Officer John Williamson
John, I woke up oday and thought of you. You were like a brother to me. You were always quick with a smile and you didn't like to see people without one. You were a part of my family, and still reside in the hearts of those of us whom are left on this Earth. Maybe you and Lois are Playing "car tag", now :) You followed your dream and became a Police Officer. I know how proud you would have been to do that. I pray for your Parents and your Brother, Paul and Sister, Nancy. I hope they find comfort in their memories. The Keen Family Loves you.
Love, Tracy

John i still remember that day like it was yesterday.i think of you often but have never written on this blog.I could not because it just brings back that horid day.I was walking to go talk to you when you were hit.I was going to tell you of an incident that had happened a few days before.I was off duty and asked you what to do.IM sure you would have laughed at the outcome but you never got it.I have told you in my prayers so im sure you laughed.I dont tell this story much because it still brings a tear to my eye.Im retiring soon so i decided it was time to write to you.I know your in a better place but you are sorely missed here.I will soon be leaving the job and almost everything associated with it behind, but i will never leave you or your memory.that will go with me where ever i am.GOD BLESS

John, Thinking of you on your 17th anniversary in Heaven.Time goes by so fast but memories still remain fresh. I see you right now playing 3rd base at 78 street park in Jackson Heights and always being a voice of reason when things went bad on the field.
You are missed John, please keep watching over us from Heaven.

Another year passes, but the memories still remain. The laughs, the good times, and the friendship i miss. I often wonder where you would be right now... Its not fair, but we cannot change the past, all i can do is honor you and the time i knew you. So please know you are not forgotten, and you are still loved by all you knew.
Always thinking of you buddy...

I was working the night of 10/08/93 and responded to the 10-85 forthwith over the air. There was a parking enforcement detail on the scene validly removing triple parked livery cars. There was a mini-riot of about 300 locals. The officer in the detail put out a 10-85 forthwith over the air and I responded. I jumped in a sector car that was heading there because I was on foot that night. Back then it was a lot more dangerous than now. I got there and it was complete bedlam. We were able to clear the crowd out to the point where it was calm. However, an illegal alien by the name of Pedro Gil climbed to the roof of 501 West 175 Street, looked over the edge, saw Officer Williamson standing with a couple of other officers getting ready to get back in his vehicle, and Pedro Gil launched a 40 pound bucket of spackle off the roof, landing right on the officer's head. The crowd cheered wildly in approval.
After a 2 week intensive manhunt, the best detectives in the world were able to apprehend Gil who naturally had fled to the Dominican Republic. Although this site says the perp was convicted, he was acquitted of murder. He was convicted of manslaughter. The jury said that the police could have handled the situation better, so of course the perp walks. That's what happened that night out there.
God Bless you, John.

I was just watching an old re-run of COPS which taped with the NYPD air patrol and E.S.U. shortly after your death. The story of how you were killed was mentioned and so I searched until I found your page. What a horrible tradegy and at such an early age. What an even bigger injustice the jury committed with such a short sentence. May god bless and look over your family and someday may your killer get his just desert. R.I.P. Brother.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

How a jury of 12 people could acquit someone of murder is beyond comprehension!
