Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

Heavenly Father, You are Compassionate and Merciful. None of America’s Peace Officers leave home without the fear of not returning at the end of their watch. It is a fear that is lived daily. Unfortunately, the worst does sometimes come to pass, and lives are left shattered. Lord God, bless and keep the hearts and souls of those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. Wipe away the tears from their eyes. Soothe their pain and bind up their emotional wounds through the wounds of Your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In His name, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.

Euphemia, I worked with your father when I was stationed in Lone Pine. Believe he flew out of Daggett airport. When I found out he was on his his way to Inyo County to help us with speed enforcement I knew it would be another "productive" day. He was a very good pilot. Sometimes after we attended court together in Independence we would have lunch in Lone Pine, (We never lost a case!) I pass his memorial signs frequently on my way to Inyo County. A very proud and dedicated officer.

Larry, you were truly one of my true friends. We had many things in common and often talked about things of interest to both of us. I am so glad we had the opportunity to work together at Inland Division Air Operations. I was always in awe of your drive, hard work, and determination to achieve the goals you set for yourself; becoming a CHP Officer and a fixed wing pilot just to name a few. I know you loved your family, and what you did for a living. Even after all these years, I still think of you often and miss you. Rest in peace my friend.

I would wait on the 395 south of Lone Pine while you flew north from Olancha, pacing speeders in your fixed-wing. You spotted some hot ones, in a hurry to get to the Mammoth ski area. All I had to do was pull out and make the stop. Certainly some amazed violators as I pointed out your plane making a fly-over; low and slow, tipping your wing. We never lost a court case.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 16th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

In reading the loving reflections, I see that you are missed and loved by many and that you had a profound impact on the lives of others. I hold your family and friends in my heart's embrace today.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
