Reflections for Officer Larry Joe Jaramillo

Larry,

You were my best friend at the CHP academy. Those who knew you knew that you were dedicated, honest, and hard-working. I knew that you deeply loved your family. You often told me of your love for your children.

Many may not know how much you wanted to be a CHP officer. After not passing you first academy driving course, you paid to take extra driving classes on your own. You even bought an old CHP patrol car in order to practice your driving skills in order to get back into the CHP academy. Your efforts so impressed the CHP brass that they readmitted you despite your being slightly over the maximum age.

As Tom mentioned below, you were the oldest cadet in our class. Even at that, you were the class athlete. We spent many a weekend at the academy going out to old junk yards looking for parts for your "run-out" car. Those were good times.

It was a pleasure getting to know you. Those that did not get to know you missed a great guy.

Officer Jaramillo was an Academy classmate of mine. He was our classes' oldest cadet. He also earned the award for being the best athlete. He was a former Marine. He was a quiet spiritual man. His wife June was also a quiet person. Larry's death was a shock to us all. I feel confident that his family will be taken care of and that his life positively impacted many. 2005 would have marked Larry's 20th year. God bless the Jaramillo family and the CHP.

I thank you for your service and salute you for your sacrifice.

A grateful citizen.

My neighbor, a friend, a wonderful father. Larry had a heart of gold and lived to fly. His love of life passed down to his daughters and his wife. He may have left us early, but his dedication in the air, on the ground and in his heart touched us all.

Thanks, Larry.
