Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

First responders and for that matter all those who answer any call never really know the outcome until God Himself who orchestrates His fearless flock of honor, integrity and heroic dignity through their missions. Your voyages, Officer Cook, here in Dade County supported the beliefs and even the theories that your excellent character and cautious style helped you finish six years of dedicated and loyal work to end this onslaught of unsightly evil. Heaven steers those souls of our decent and brave comrades of law enforcement. You are forever an angel, Officer Cook, fitted with clear and perfect wings which will allow you to soar higher and higher. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Seeing police gives their lives you would think it might just slow this evil progression of violence pressed upon mankind's throats. New York City had some officers shot and nearly ambushed to death while in their patrol cars and while they were inside their staionhouses yesterday. It all just makes one's blood boil over. It surely did, Officer Cook, that day of May 16, 1979, when Dade County, your family and department lost a bright, young and handsome soul of a gentleman in your dignified self. A public servant humbled to serve and to tackle with all the character, commitment to excelling and the integrity that steered everything trustworthy and truthful you believed in. While we cannot bring you back, one thing forever certain, we can honor your heroism and deserving spirit of sacred proportions. Humility and faith conceived our freedoms never to be taken for granted as you, Officer Cook, took nothing for granted either. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Continuation involves the traits and good work habits of honesty, dignity and integrity all to be utilized in a discreet fashion. Everything you learned my neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook, you took to the various streets to deter crime. Dade County has never forgotten your mastery of morals, mettle and the disciplined character it requires to do your job. The assignments, roles and their essential tasks were all dealt with and handled succinctly. Just as your unassuming gallantry and resiliency in being as to conquer this sheer and brute force of violence. Still will always be sad and just terrible that Mr. Pearsall took your life and nearly those of your two esteemed colleagues who I personally hope are doing as well as can be expected today. Officers DiGenova and Edgerton took that fateful call that you and your partner, Reserve Officer Scott Lincoln backed them up on. The support was not overlooked and neither was your humility and humane labors of loyalty. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

All I know, Officer Cook, if I had you as a dear friend, boy just think how happy I'd be. I have a great wife and two sons who make me proud as heck. You made your parents they should rest in peace so proud. As their beloved and brave darling son and brother, a devoted husband who secured the boundaries of Dade County every last fiber, fabric and being of your concerned and consummate heart and soul. Peace and its reality of hope, humility and goodwill to our world all less today because of your absence. Never again will Our Creator allow harm and evil to afflict your spirit and being for your unselfish sacrifice unlocked those gates, doors and bridges to a newer tomorrow though today is not yet finished.
