"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

May you turn to the Lord for strength and understanding for this Hero. The Lord will be the main source of your comfort as he keeps your family in his bosom, as the scriptures state. Close your eyes and feel the Lord's presence as he puts his loving arms around you. The Lord's spirit will carry you through as you mourn and celebrate the life of your loved one. Your family will be in my prayers. As I watch the memorial service, my heart breaks for you, but your loved one left a positive mark on society, and all he touched before the Lord called him home. We must trust God, as his will is done. Much love to the family.

Although "thank you" does not convey the message I wish you and your family to hear from me, I am not sure of what the correct word or phrase would be. How do you acknowledge the sacrifice you and your family has made. Unthinkable. I acknowledge your sacrifice of protecting others at the expense of your own life. You are a hero. There is no telling how many lives you saved on August 8. I am deeply sad and cannot make sense of the fact that you are no longer here with your wife, children, family and friends.

My heart goes out to the heroic Officer David Rose for giving his life in the call of duty. It is such a tragedy that we lost Officer Rose in senseless gun violence by an assailant who used multiple high capacity weapons to attack CDC under an erroneous belief that the COVID-19 vaccine made him ill. Condolences to his family and friends.
