I had the privilege of knowing Bill through our time together at the National Fire Academy, where we were paired up as part of a four-person team—three of us Public Safety Bomb Technicians, which made our group quite unique for that course. From the moment we met, it was clear that Bill was the embodiment of a quiet professional. He carried himself with a calm confidence that put everyone around him at ease, yet there was always an underlying strength that spoke to his dedication and expertise.
What I'll remember most about Bill was his ability to balance professionalism with genuine warmth. He had this wonderful way of making our training moments lighter with his presence and some truly great one-liners that would catch you off guard and have everyone laughing. Whenever any of us sought guidance, he was always ready with thoughtful wisdom. He didn't just share knowledge—he shared perspective, earned through years of service and genuine care for those around him.
Bill, you will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing and working alongside you. My heartfelt condolences go out to your family and your fellow deputies at Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Your dedication and service went far beyond what most people will ever truly comprehend. The sacrifices you made during your career—working holidays, extensive overtime, and your family sharing you and your time with the public—along with the ultimate sacrifice you and your family have now given, represent the very best of what it means to serve others.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to protecting Los Angeles County. Your legacy of service, professionalism, and quiet strength will continue to inspire those of us who were fortunate enough to call you colleague and friend.
Godspeed, Bill. We will take it from here.

Heavenly Father, You are Compassionate and Merciful! None of America's Peace Officers leave home without the fear of not returning at the end of their watch. It is a fear that is lived daily. Unfortunately, the worst does sometimes come to pass, and, as a result, lives are left shattered. Lord God, bless and keep the hearts and souls of those who have lost loved ones in the Line-of-Duty. Wipe away the tears from their eyes. Soothe their pain and bind up their emotional wounds through the wounds of Your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In His mighty and holy Name, and by His Authority, I pray for America's Fallen Peace Officers. Amen.
Please find Comfort, Support, and Hope from the Law Enforcement Officer's Christian Standard Bible:
[Jesus taught:] "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God." (Matthew 5:9);
[Jesus taught:] "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4);
[Jesus said to her (Martha):] "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live." (John 11:25), and;
"He [the Lord God] heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds."
(Psalm 147:3).
