Seargeant Owen, i'm sorry for what happened to you that day almost 9 years ago, as your death should've never happened, and that the person who killed you was truly a scumbag. For one, he never gave you the chance to fight back, which in itself is extremely vile and cruel, and that his actions were not human in any way shape or form. As a matter of fact, the individual who killed you wasn't even human, as he proceeded to try and steal your car, and take 2 innocent teens hostage and scare them. For what reason and why? I'm not sure, but i do know for certain that he will never see the day of light again, as he's been permanently sealed away from society as he's been given life without parole, but honestly, i think it should've been different, because he was a dog that needed to be put down a long time ago since he clearly never learned his lesson; Not to mention that he was paroled the same day this occured, which says everything we need to know about that man. But honestly, i'd like to look into the positive side of things; For one, you served with LASD for nearly 30 years, meaning that you were well-decorated and a veteran officer, not to mention you reached the rank of Seargeant, which i think was well-deserved since you were a soldier of an officer. To face evil everyday for almost 30 years, especially in the state of California where all types of things happen there, is something that not many are built to do nor comprehend, but you knew this and you were able to look danger in the eyes and fight anyway. On top of that you were a family man too as you were busy raising 3 kids, whom i'm sure are proud to say that their father was a Police Seargeant that gave the ultimate sacrifice, and they carry on your legacy each day as they move on in life, as it's what you would've wanted since you know that you wouldn't want them to give up. Honeslty, one thing i don't understand is why people feel the need to not only harm others, but harm police as well. I think the only way to answer that is because people, especially now in society, are too selfish and only think of themselves, and not think about the consequences of their actions. That person didn't just take away a police officer, he took away a husband, a father, a son, and a man that would give his life for others in the line of danger. Whenever i see cases like these where the officer couldn't fight back, it makes me feel sick inside, but in this perdicament, you hung on and fought until the very end, which goes to show how brave you were to never give up. I could go on about the person who took your life, but in the end, all we can do is pray that whatever happens to him when his time comes is between him and his God, since we can't confirm where he'll go when he passes, but by the looks of it, i think we know where he will go as he's currently rotting in his cell on this very day. I'm sure that during your almost 30 years in your career, you've set the example numerous and countless times to other police officers on how to do their jobs correctly, and you demonstrated to the people of Los Angeles county that when danger comes, you must never give up, and that's what you did as you didn't give up and fought. And despite me not knowing you or have ever met you as i was young when you passed, i'm sure that you were a wonderful man and wonderful person to meet and talk to, as you were definitely the type of Officer that could chat with anybody and make them feel safe and welcomed, since you most definitely were able to change people's lives for the better with your service. Matter of fact, your service is always remembered, as i read that there's a sign named after you on Highway 14, and there's even a park named after you, and if that doesn't show the type of impact you left when you sacrificed your life, i'm not sure what is since people see and hear your name each time they go pass the sign or visit the park named in your honor. There's alot more i could say, but i'd like to finish this off with a final note: No matter how much time passes, no matter how many years go by, your service will always be cherished and never forgotten, and that as long as your name is said and you're remembered, you aren't truly gone as you live on in the hearts and minds of others, including your children who carry on your legacy in life as they progress, which i'm sure that if you were here right now, you'd be proud of them for what they've already accomplished. As of now, may you rest in peace knowing that your service will never be forgotten, and that the person who killed you will no longer hurt anyone else again, as he is under the jail and has had the key thrown away for good reason, as he has already caused enough harm to throw his life away. I'm sure that the residents of Los Angeles and the people in the state of California are honored to say that they've had officers like you once roaming the streets and roads, making sure that they can go home safely with men like you acting as a guard and public servant to them, and let's not forget that you've done it for 29 years, which in itself is a large accomplishment to know that you served the public for that long, and you'll continue to serve with our heavenly father in heaven. as you're one of God's angels and a guardian angel to your wife and kids. Rest Easy Mr. Owen

Sergeant Steve Owen led a great life and served his community with dedication and professionalism. His life was taken too soon through an act of cowardice. We will continue to remember all the great things he accomplished in his time with the Sheriff’s Department, and we will remember who he was as a person. I did not know him personally, although after reading some of the reflections left on his page I can imagine he was a kind and selfless person. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.
