David, when I heard of your passing I could not contain my sadness, you were a good friend and an outstanding marine. I still remember the last conversation we had, it was the day you left the corp and told me you were gonna become a Deputy sheriff. I remember asking you to cut me some slack if you were ever to pull me over, we laughed and said good bye. If I knew now that it was to be our last conversation I would of thought of something smarter to say. To your family please know that you are in my thoughts prayers.
David I know that your in heaven standing post and also know that I will see you again my friend. Rest in Peace

Shauna--

I said a little prayer for you today.
I hope you didn't mind.
I asked the Lord to comfort you and put your tears behind.

I prayed for peace and mercy,
To help you through each day
And for his loving guidance
As He leads you on your way.

You need not walk this path alone
So I prayed He hold your hand,
And offer you some guidance
In a way you'll understand.

I asked Him for little miracles
And to bless you everyday.
Keep searching for your rainbows-
And let him light your way.

PIQUETTE!
This is gonna be so hard to write, but I will try my best! I just found out about your passing just a few minutes ago from (back then) Sgt. Jimenez. I ran into him at a 7-11 in Portsmouth, Va. Wow, what a small world!!!!Remember Portsmouth, Va.? We were stuck here while our ship was in drydock (USS T. Roosevelt)and I am still stuck here.... I can't believe you are gone, you were a great friend, and an excellent Marine. I have so many pictures of us as we were in the Corps together, and especially when we went to United Arab Emirates and hung out together. You were one that we could always depend on, and one of the best Marines I ever knew. I have so many fond memories of you, and I remember you being a great family man. Always putting your family first. We would always go out into town when we were off, and you would pass, and spend time with your family. I always admired that.
I didn't know you went on to be a Sheriffs Deputy with Los Angeles. How ironic, because that is where I am originally from, Pomona.
I am the president of the Police Unity Tour of Virginia. We do a bike ride every year in honor of those fallen officers that have fallen before us. We have several riders from your dept. Somehow, I want to get in touch with your family, meet them in DC this year during National Police Week. I can't leave a website, or my email address on here, but if you are a family member please google search Police Unity Tour of Virginia. You can get into contact with me that way.
I will bring pictures of us together to the Memorial this year. I am dedicating every thing I have this year to your sacrifices. You are a true hero Piquette, there are no doubts about it. You are an inspiration for us all. I will keep you and your family in my daily prayers, and I will stop in here from time to time. Please keep us all safe!

Happy New Year, Sir!
After a year and a half, our time with you in force training is still some of the most important academy instruction we have experienced. Many of us have gone 10-8 and have had our share of experiences with bad guys. We do not take our training for granted, and can still hear your voice, "Keep your hands up" "Be Ready" "There are a lot of bad guys our there" and "Make sure you go home at end of shift".
Thank you for your time in teaching us how to fight and how to stay alive.
You'll never know - or maybe you will :)- know the impact you've had on so many deputies' and officers' lives.
Your mom, dad, Shawna, Justin, Jordan should be EXTREMELY proud of the deputy and instructor you were to so many of us.
Thank you, Sir.

Our Dear David,

We spent fall and winter at Lake Havasu in our coach. Shawna and the twins were up for about a month in your trailer. You would be so proud of Justin. He caught his first fish with a little help from Papa in your boat. The twins remember your last "family vacation" with them at "Black Meadows". Jordan watches for falling stars and says you are sending her kisses.
Shawna, Justin and Jordan went to your station's Christmas party. When the couples started to dance, Justin began to cry. When his mommy asked him what was the matter, he said he wanted his daddy to come down from heaven and take his mommy dancing.
Shawna and the twins miss you so. You are always in our hearts!

Rest in Peace my brother in blue, but also Semper Fi fellow Marine brother. I was directed to your page by an off the path way. My family lost a member of our family on Jul 5th (Joshua Norris my future son in law) and a reflection was left by a unknown citizen. My prayers are with your family forever.

My dearest Shawna, Justin and Jordan: Hello my darlings. Do you know when the most awesome time of the year is? It's now. It's in this month that we celebrate our Lord and Savior's birth. This is the month that as Christians we hold on to all of His promises. Three thousand years ago, a tiny baby was born in a manger. This baby's life and purpose was ultimately to die for us and in dying for us, He gave us the hope and joy in knowing that we will someday join Him in Heaven. He made it possible for us to all be together. He will be there waiting for us and will welcome us with open arms with the most amazing abundance of love and peace and joy that we will never, ever truly begin to imagine until it is our time. In July 2006, it was Davids's time....and David walked right into His arms. He is so happy, so content. I don't believe for a moment that he has any idea the sadness and pain that you and your babies, his mother and father, brother and sister all still feel. For Dave, there is no more sorrow....no more tears. David was brought into this world by Bill and Lan for a reason. They were meant to be his parents. They were meant to nuture and take care of him. They did their job well. You were meant to be David's wife my dear Shawna. Justin and Jordan were meant to be his children. It was the Lord's destiny for all of you. Nothing happens in His world by mistake. And we will never know the answer to our whys until we see Him. How much does He love us though? Some people can live a lifetime, and never be blessed with what you and Dave had. What an incredible gift. Some people can live a life time, and never have been blessed with children. Again, as parents, Dave and his siblings were incredible gifts. Over three thousand years ago, a little baby was born. When he was 32 years old, His destiny was fulfilled. Praise the Lord for loving us so much that someday we will all be able to walk into His arms and David, and all our loved ones will be there waiting for us. I love you Shawna. I love your babies. I love and miss David. God bless all of you. And Lan, Bill and Rich I pray for His peace for you that surpasses all understanding. I pray that you are filled with His love and the hope, joy and knowledge that you will someday be with your David again as well. Merry Christmas my darling Shawna.....hugs and kisses. Aunt Janel

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
