Happy Birthday Michael. Was out to visit you today and leave some flowers at your grave site. Cleaned it up a little and thought of years past. Even the Van shaped birthday cake I baked for you on your 13th Birthday. I have no idea why I remember that cake. Miss you every day, especially today. You will never be forgotten and are always with me in my heart. Love and miss you. Happy Birthday. Please keep watch over everyone for me.

Your Dad...recently shared a loving tribute to you...made by your son Cullen...who was asked to be the guest speaker...at the Chicago Police Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony in 2015. He is a very handsome and gifted young man...who looks a lot like you...and he did you and your family...very proud. God bless him and his siblings.

Dear Mike,
I'm sorry I didn't write for Xmas but things were hectic here. As usual, we celebrated on Xmas Eve and your sons, brothers & their families, Grandma Puf and Aunt Kathy were here.
We have a table top Xmas tree for you, decorated with all things related to your life.
Your Dad, however, did make it to the cemetery on Xmas.

Dear Mike,
Yesterday the CPD Memorial's Operation Santa honored your children with gifts. Mr. & Mrs. Santa arrived, followed by a motorcade of around 16 cars - Darien, CPD and State Police. Around thirty people depart the cars and come into the house for food and beverage.
You are remembered and will never be forgotten. I do wonder what some of the neighbors think though.

Eleven years have passed since you were called away. Some say it feels like just yesterday that you were here with us. For me and Mom it has felt like a lifetime since we heard your funny laugh and saw your crooked smile, listened to your stories. I miss those early morning phone calls on your way home from working mids and filling me in on the activity that night. You would always ask the same thing when I answered the phone, "Dad, what you doing?" I was sleeping most of the time but said I was up. If I could only have back those mornings I cut you short. Mike, Watch over your son Cullen who is leaving tomorrow for his Adventure Camping Trip to Canada. He will be gone for 40 days and of course I and the rest of the family will be on pins and needles the whole time. He loves this kind of stuff and I would love to be happy for him if I didn't get so nuts about these things. I was that way with you and your brothers and now with the grandchildren.
This is his fourth year with this camp in Wisconsin and he has advanced each year. Now he's telling me that next year he wants to be a camp counselor. He also asked what I thought about him joining the Army and I said he needed to finish college before thinking about the Army. I wish you were here to guide him because the family can only say and do so much.
