We gathered today, at her gravesite, to remember her on the 35th anniversary of her end of watch. The wreath laying, organized by Transit District 33, her command, was very moving. It brought back sad memories but also great pride and comfort in knowing that decades later she is not forgotten. When you join the NYPD Family, it's forever.

I remember Fran from the 155th st Police Academy. She was always smiling.
I spent a week of restricted duty with her at Jay St. I remember thinking after she went back to full duty how much I was going to miss hanging out with her.
She was one of the nicest people I met on that job.
I left NYCTPD and was on the job in NJ when I heard the news on TV.
Fran your heroism and your ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. R.I.P

I remember this incident I was assigned to dist 1 Columbus circle when this happened. It was sad. I was in company 84-80.. graduated in Dec. She was pretty. The story printed here was totally different of what the incident occured.

Officer Irma Lozada. Rest in Peace. I attended your funeral with other members of the City Of Stamford Connecticut Police Department. I had three years on the job then.
I just recently retired after almost 37 years.
I think of you every so often. God bless you and your family.

This has now been confirmed: She was an auxiliary in the 24 from 1979-1982.  Her brother was APO in the 24 as well from 1979-1990.

There should be no parole for a person that commits murder! Someone who takes a life, then they should sacrifice the remainder of their life locked away from the public. These murders still have a life, but they took away their victim's life and future. They took away someone's mother, father, sister, brother and/or child. They took away someones loved one and those lives will never be the same! Those families are changed forever! No parole for killers, especially cop killers.

I remember when it happened. Though I never met Officer Lozada her death shook me really hard. I’d lost other officers, some of them friends. She was the first female officer killed LOD. One of our princesses was gone.
