Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

If a crystal ball could help us look into the future, there are no crystal balls and no apparent quick fixes into this very violence that has threatened the peace, unity and prosperity of our world. There was one very special young man, Officer Cook, the humble and loyal epitome of what an honorable and decent gentleman is all about. Your life and service as a police officer was about carrying your dignity and integrity as proudly as you donned your badge and uniform. You'll be so remembered and saluted for your heroic bravery, courage and valor beyond any doubt. A family man whose mission was your goal, dream and aspiration. You were a revered inspiration to all mankind. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Legacies don't take breaks for they reside within the very souls of those who distinguished themselves in boldness, conviction, commitment and quality of character. Your life and career, Officer Cook, was the role model of humility to all humanity.

God knows what is right for His children. He sees and hears our cries for help clearly. If only He could have pulled you through that day, Officer Cook. If a person's honesty, dignity, decency and integrity could have saved you, what a better world this would be. He sees one's passions and their missions in life until their finality. He trains His spiritual awareness upon those who are resolute, devout and loyal. What else can we ask from Him when our beloved heroes and heroines go down hard fighting these fierce battles with an arch enemy, evil and the very violence, wanton and baseless hatred perpetrated against our most courageous and faithful professionals who dare danger, who stand toe to toe looking somehow to make an impression which you did, Officer Cook, for all Dade County. its residents can stand tall and humble as you patrolled their venue over forty-three years ago. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your legacy of hope and goodwill is forever secure. Your missions were carried out deliberately and with an honorable cause.

A lover of the outdoors, a persuasive pursuer of peace, you were the faithful and humbly loyal embodiment, Officer Cook, of what we expect from our most bravest of public servants. Your honor, dignity and integrity took you from place to place in and around around Dade County as you endeavored to maintain the peace and freedom of all folks. Things happen. Sadly, since that awful day of May 16, 1979, there have been a plethora of evil that has seemingly taken over the world as we seek to understand why. These days we seem to have a wealth of concerns over this very formidable adversary and that is this unprovoked wanton violence that is perpetrated against police officers and for that matter against ant law enforcement personnel. If you stay true to your word, keep on the paths of integrity, dignity and honesty, things will generally speaking resolve themselves. Simplicity and sincerity. Certain situations call for these two words. And yet, we demand that all police officers be honest, have both dignity and integrity while risking their lives bravely to keep us peaceful and safe. You were, Officer Cook, the quintessential professional who always went over and beyond the calls of duty. A cherished man with a big caring heart, your family, comrades and friends pay homage to your memory each day. Dade County and its residents witnessed this achievement for six years, it's a shame some officers do go awry and don't perform according to department rules and regulations.
