Never does anyone want to lose a beloved family member and so it is that we cherish our times with them for no one knows when Our Creator's day of reckoning will arrive. The grass withers, the flower fades surely the good name and your most blessed honesty, Officer Cook, resides in your family's heart, your colleagues' minds and in God's house of hope, faith and the goodwill of mankind forever. Dade County's truth and trust in your humility released a wonderful chain of courage and serenity for us all to be extremely thankful for. Missions and fruitful journeys come with a destiny, retirement should have been your profound calling after nearly thirty years of loyal and dedicated service to your community. Instead the saddest of tidings, a man full of tenacity humbly speaking not timidness was unduly taken from this world by violence and the ruins of rage all perpetrated by a distraught young man. Why? We don't have conclusive or concrete answers. All your family members know as they try to cope with grief over your loss is that you would want for them to carry on with your heroic legacy of character, dignity and noble deeds to be remembered for generations to come. It is underlines and underscores in the happiness the Cook, Tidwell and Wilkerson Families all pursue in their daily lives of peace, health, happiness and contentment. What a sad state of affairs and how guns laws are so lax in this country. Supposed to be the freest and most trusted, sure doesn't sound plausible how our brave and dignified can execute their duties knowing persons not normal and who have problems can get a permit to carry "heat". First of all to pack a weapon you must be free of legal issues and just act like a relatively sane individual. You were a very brave soul of sanity protecting Dade County, Officer Cook. With your inner spirit and physical being you took your commands and marched to your departments ideals, wisdom and very values that were supposed to make you safe and pull you through and us as well through torment. The warrior in you, Officer Cook, was whistling for a little action, what a hero! It got our attention, should have gained Mr. Pearsall's as well. If all police did was worry the jobs of dealing and preventing violence would not be carried out smartly and fairly. The avalanche of adversity sets the chains of terror in motion and then things , well you don't know how they will go. The tension and turmoil back in your day, Officer Cook, for those of us living and looking for a little unity and peace, you could cut the unrest with a knife. At least, Officer Cook, you got to the nuts and bolts of the matters at hand. Determination. Leadership. Honesty, bravery and the dignity to stand up to the root causes of evil which ended your sweet and wonderfully engaging life with your beloved Karen. So hard to imagine you not being there for your mother, Mrs. Julia Cook now. I do hope and pray that at the humble age of one-hundred and two you are well. You and your husband, Charles, may he too rest in peace raised two fine and humble children. Nancy and her beloved younger brother, "Billy." His class and character helped him to overcome the drastic affects of heinousness and really a terrible story losing him and his integrity and morals at the tender age of twenty-five. The epicenter of our energetic and efficient heroes and heroines is right on their sleeves where serenity and dignity is born from honesty and basic humane integrity. Gallantry, passion and vision pop right out of that forever sacred peace of green metal. symbolic of your unwavering constitution in battling adversity and replenishing our streams and other bodies of water with intuition and your undivided consensus of wisdom. The calls from the grave echo the magnitude of the situations we face when violence hinders our pathways of happiness. It did on May 16, 1979 and lo and behold, there you were, Officer Cook, ready to act heroically and civilly. An evil man bent on terror dueling with men all stout and replete with dignity, ethics and honor. You sure were, Officer Cook, present and accounted for in resolve, hope and faith that things would end properly. Too bad Mr. Pearsall did not reach that same conclusion and just surrender peacefully none of this mayhem would have ever happened to such a fine young man and brave soul of serenity. Dade County and its population were in terrifically great hands a humanitarian and humble warrior. Touche to a savior! Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
