Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
Never like a deer in headlights, you prodded along in your quest to quiet Dade County and its folks down from a crazed and disturbed man, Officer Cook. Salutes and reverence come to those noble and dignified enough to place their lives in trouble's way. No better morals, mettle and the meaning of true grit and character than yours. Better days were ahead for you and your family. The sorry part is you could not witness these foundations you firmly laid down for us, humanity and those who went to battle with you on an everyday basis. Salvation has returned. Humility is now in the eyes of Our Master whose gathering of gallantry has gotten larger because of more rampant than ever ugliness permeating in our world. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Bravery and boldness that broadened our horizons. The very same you crossed over, Officer Cook, when held your gentle soul in His arms of compassion returning you to heaven. To see your dad, Charles, may he too rest in peace it had to be most heart warming and yet very sad for him to greet his beloved son so soon. Tragedy can only bring a family together at their saddest time and for the Cook, Tidwell and Wlikerson Families all too soon and much anguish. Dade County was protected by a loving guardian angel whose heroic spirit had the utmost integrity, honesty and dignity by being an integral companion to his peers during this war over heinousness. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

You are never a part time officer once you sign on the dotted line. Your preoccupation starts immediately upon finishing the necessary training period. I'm sure when you went out on your first patrol with your field training officer, Officer Cook, they could tell your seriousness and the emancipation of our problems that needed resolving. Your destiny I believe was ordained by God and He took your journeys up and about as best as He could. Safe and sound, there never seems to come that day. Yet, Dade County for as much turbulence as there was during your watch was handled with care, class and the decency that honor, integrity and dignity bring to a man of valor and a stoic character that accentuated your pursuits of happiness for everyone. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Those pillars you rest your head on, Officer Cook, are of exquisite nature provided to heroines and heroes brave and humble. Never anymore harm will come your way. It should not have come to such a warm and respected man.

An owl on the prowl, it's probably been said many times how nice and dedicated you were, Officer Cook. Companions, colleagues, all with glowing things to say about their loyal and beloved friend. Esteemed and efficient, productive and persevering, prudent and practical, it went all into your body of work and service to benefit Dade County and their citizens. Hopes, dreams, goodwill, integrity and character all placed on dignity and honor's chariot of courage to corner callousness and enrich a community with serene and prosperous days and years. All in a relatively short twenty-five years. Capacity. Capability and professional conduct all meant to reduce crime and increase awareness for one another. You will be humbly, humanely and heroically recognized, Officer Cook, for steering us in the right direction. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

A gentleman that takes pride and works with a passion burning inside of him will be ultimately rewarded. Effort takes ingenuity. Integrity takes some humble intelligence. Dignity and integrity are drafted from the understanding of what it means to be honest and open to newer ideas. You had values, morals and scruples, Officer Cook, to handle your principle affairs in guarding Dade County's citizens. A measure of success comes when one reaches out for some mettle and has the conclusive character that cam chase down and capture the rotten odors of violence. Our semblance of safe and harmonious lives was your calling, Officer Cook and humanity was only better enhanced your your heroic humility. Square on the button. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

The man that donated part of that lottery winning ticket was a reserve police officer from Elizabeth, New Jersey. A fine man and humble servant . If the officer killed had any kids I'm sure they could certainly could have used that money. An honorable man just as you were, Officer Cook. Gallant and honest, sincerely devoted and regally dignified. Never forgotten and saluted for intensity, integrity and model character. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. A donation from a caring soul. That is what makes heroes and heroines.

Young children love to play with blocks. Adults too have their passions in life. You must be saluted for your undying, unwavering and most assuredly unselfish effort to keep peace and to reign in evil, Officer Cook. A nemesis as unforgiving as violence is needs extra treatment, one that completely eradicates it from our world. Dade County like any big metropolitan area needed that extra special loving care and Badge#1664 and its humble boldness delivered precisely day in and day out. With a complete and honest character, versatility and durability did you stay in there and fight for our peace of mind, security and the unity that binds as as one nation under God. Loyal and cherished, accomplished and humanely convicted in all your aspirations. You accepted this challenge and willingly put your life and career on the line for our journeys to go on. You have been fondly honored for inspiring wisdom and vision from those who have firmly taken hold of that baton of bravery and uniform of humble distinction. Honesty and integrity don't need to be embellished as long as one stays humble and reserved in their daily affairs. Police work does require constant resolve and the courage summoned from one's very heart. Your days and years, Officer Cook, were were planned out. It would not take a rocket scientist to comprehend how you went about becoming a true hero of humility and of sage wisdom. To lead other officers does take acumen, awareness and by being astute you can function at a little higher plateau than others. Dade County and its citizens surely reaped dividends in the sense that they were safe and sound when you circled around the various venues. There are peaks and valleys in life and to be successful and humble one must try to overcome those obstacles which prevent further endeavor. You tried and achieved, Officer Cook, you did this by first and foremost being honorable and faithful to your professional peers. Before battling adversity here in Dade County you had to be a morally focused man and you surely were. Dignity and integrity as fine as they come. Humanity has many quirks and twists and so all duly functional public servants must navigate around these road blocks. It's when terror and violence have played their final roles and we can say adios then the serenity and safe missions can continue onward. Courage and decency are not cliff hangers . Though, whenever our most devoted go out into the fracas where evil and violence lurk they must be cautious. Your crusades here in Dade County, Officer Cook, placed peace and unity back on the map. Fortune and fate are given to each human being by Our Lord Himself. What we make of ourselves as we pursue our happiness that is another manner. Your life and story, Officer Cook, has been written, told and shared by all whoever lived. A hero whose integrity, decency and class were all the results of a good home life and terrific upbringing. I just read of a reflection for an officer killed whose widow received one-hundred thousand dollars from a man who won a lottery. Back in 1969 that was a lot of money and it is only fair if a man gives his life as you solemnly did, Officer Cook, for Dade County to prosper and to live peacefully. But make no mistake violence should not have ended your missions and travels at age twenty-five with more left to accomplish. Honesty, integrity and wisdom dignify a man or woman's desires to make their communities safer and by enriching your community, Officer Cook, may your spirit be rewarded. It sure is as God has now given you a humbly more difficult task and that is to patrol those golden pathways in heaven. Reign down your goodwill upon those brave and honored souls of distinction whose boldness and resolve resembled your own. May you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Character, decency and dedication make one's job a bit less complex. The stress and demands will always be present. Acclimating must be a required first step in order to push past peril and danger.

Bravery must share its infinite wisdom with vision and conviction in order for honor and integrity to serve its purposes usefully and righteously. Your good name, Officer Cook, was instrumental in bringing terror to its knees and believe me you tried your utmost on May 16, 1979, along with the heart and valor of your comrades you brought safety and sanctity back to Dade County and its landscape where peace and unity would be appreciated. Your character and commitment, Officer Cook, would not have it any other way. The ending was not what your family and peers expected, yet as pious as your family is they know one day soon your soul and spirit will meet in heaven them and greet them with that same smile that remains cherished and gregarious. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

A nice surrounding surely assists in making peace a firmer reality. What is relevant, Officer Cook, is that you were a supremely humble man and that you received from your loving parents. I would sure love to know how your mother, Mrs. Julia Cook is doing today. You were her beloved, darling and heroic son who rescued Dade County and its citizens from pure evil. Cowardly and heinous, Mr. Pearsall took you from us, your family and peers whom you partnered with to save and preserve the honor, integrity and dignity of life. At least, Officer Cook, your compass of valor and courage was centered where it would have the greatest affect. It's composed in one's how they will conduct their life and affairs on and off duty. Cornerstones and foundations are built for a reason and that is so our society and humanity can document your desire and devotion always etched squarely in our hearts and souls. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Boldness and bravery are not vainly benign. They are instilled upon one's soul of honor, integrity and dignity from the moment of their conception. From your earliest days, Officer Cook, you dreamed and aspired to become a public servant and so patrolling in Dade County was your central location where most of your toughest battles lied ahead. In order for there to be flexibility, there must be some feasibility. The whole world does not revolve around one event no matter how seismic it is. Though, violence, domestic or otherwise requires the quick and practical attention of all duly brave and reverent law personnel. It's a battle cry you heard many times over the course of your six years with Metro-Dade Police Department, Officer Cook. Braver and more dignified than ever. Honorable and packed with resounding integrity built into your stoically heroic character. Dade County and its citizens wanted peace and demanded excellence and experience. Where there is smoke there may be a fire. What quenches the outrages of this wild scene, a little tenacity and ferocity feverishly poured over its smoldering wickedness. You put out loads of trouble, Officer Cook, in Dade County and for what you and your fellow officers had to occupy your goodwill with on May 16, 1979, was dashing a diabolical man's crazed advances into our cocoon of tranquil and peaceful neighborhoods. Your hopes, aspirations and dreams became our solemn inspirations as we so duly honor your memory, integrity, courage and dignity all by keeping loyal and pursuing the right causes. An indictment is that this day should have never come and yet as excellent as you were, Officer Cook, in calming down people whose tempers frayed, this day Our Creator passed your missions onto other women and men to bravely and humbly carry our your legacy of humility and heroism for humanity. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

To demean would be comparable to embarrassing someone. You spoke gently, softly and with a humble reverence for your official position, Officer Cook. The truth is just that and to gain one's trust you must be loyal and able to take direction from your superiors. Dade County was where you obtained your professional training to go on patrol searching for quiet while looking for violence to remove it from our trails. You blazed a wonderful trail, Officer Cook, so refined, so humanely heroic and with the full arsenal of acumen and honesty, it's these characteristics that made your integrity and focus stand up to terror. No officer should be violated as you too, Officer Cook, had a life and a beautiful wife to go hone to. It is a real shame when you said goodbye to Karen that day you would not be returning home. Certainly you are missed. Humanity misses your ever present humility which filled those vials of valor and humble distinction. Serenity and safety demand respect and Badge#1664 gave the effort and tried to rid our world of this undue violence. You are to be fondly saluted for salvation and the motivation to steer those of us who want to live righteous and passionate lives. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Greatness is from having the humble and humane instincts to act accordingly. Actions does speak louder than just lip service. We here in Dade County would never witness a second of peace if all public servants just spoke instead of acting as dignified as they shall. Your humility, Officer Cook, was stored in your heart of gold an don your uniform of understanding and your badge of bravery and true trust its undying boldness. You can be sure, Officer Cook, your life, career and memory will remain cherished as you were always well admired among the ranks of your department. Tragedy leaves that sad expression on one's face. It was a heart wrenching day already with two of your comrades shot and nearly killed, Officer Cook and you answered that call and were shot and mortally wounded. Dade County never forgot your classic desire, dedication and the leadership for which you led other brave and honest men and women through grief and terror. Anguish shall one day be greeted by laughter, although the bitter sadness forever lingers around the community where you protected the integrity and dignity of those wanting tranquility and some sense of real unity. Perception is not always reality, though humility and ingenuity teach us a whole lot into your heroic legacy, Officer Cook, one of faith, loyalty and the good graces of civility. Only well mannered and comporting yourself with the highest of values and scruples. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

A great memory helps one resolve conflict. But, bravery, honesty and dignity go much further down those roads of reverence. Your happy trails here in Dade County, Officer Cook, were made better by your unwavering courage, integrity and the vision to see what needed to be fixed. Sometimes the corrections are tough to make and in the end you always had the people on your mind as they were as they were priority number one. Unfortunately, God saw your destinies and most faithfully loyal travels through and called your beautiful soul back home to heaven to stand guard at those sacred and golden pearly gates of gallantry and humility.
