Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Andrew Nuñez
To anyone who is related to Deputy Andrew Nunez, you have my condolences and spreading kindness to all family who had to suffer with a lost of a member who sacrificed, with bravery, with compassion of protecting the citizens who needed someones help. Reading this makes my heart break knowing the family would have an unexpected sadness of a news they wouldn't apon hearing. From the response he had, he knew someone was crying out for help and not only showed up but sacrificed a type of danger he was getting into.

I knew Deputy Nunez because we were academy classmates in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy, Class #217. From the beginning, Nunez was the kind of person who always looked out for others—steady, genuine, and quietly supportive in all the ways that mattered.
One moment I’ll never forget happened early in the academy. We were required to make and carry our own orange wooden straight batons—something we had to craft at home and bring with us until we earned our black batons by passing the PT exam. I struggled with mine; no matter what I did, the paint wouldn’t dry right. I knew that if I showed up with a baton that looked the way mine did, I’d be getting some unwanted “special attention.”
Nunez noticed, as he always did, and without hesitation, he offered me his extra baton. He didn’t make it a big deal, didn’t expect anything in return—he just gave me what I needed, because that’s who he was. That simple act of kindness meant more to me than he ever knew, and it’s something I’ll always carry with me.
I’ll remember Nunez for his compassion, his generosity, and the love he had for the people around him. He made our class better, and he made me better.
Rest in Peace, Nunez.

As you journey in to heaven as you reflect on your life. I want you to know your legacy and morals have been carried in to the hands of fellow law enforcement officers, aspiring to be law enforcement as myself, citizens and every hero that walks the thin line, that put their lives on the line for total strangers, that wakes up every day to face the unknown challenges, You were one of those heroes. I am grateful to have had the privilege to have met you. You were an upstanding person who feared no man but god. You were funny. A loving father, husband, son, brother, friend. You talked highly of your family friends and colleagues. You will never be forgotten. Your bravery, courage, and sacrifice is a token of honor and inspiration all of us far and near will take and hold on to for the rest of our lives. May god bless your family and affected loved ones and may you rest in peace. In gods name Amen.
