Officer Didarul Islam, your courage and selflessness embody the sacred call of Isaiah 6:8, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” You answered that call every day, stepping forward to serve and protect the people of New York City with unwavering dedication. As a husband, father of two, and soon-to-be father of a third, you carried the love of your family and your faith into every moment of your service.
Your sacrifice on July 28, 2025, at 345 Park Avenue, where you faced unimaginable danger to shield others, reflects the heart of a true hero. An immigrant from Bangladesh, you embraced this city as your own, living out your faith through actions that spoke louder than words. Mayor Eric Adams called you a “true blue New Yorker,” and Commissioner Jessica Tisch rightly said you “died as you lived: a hero.” Your legacy of bravery, integrity, and love will forever inspire those who knew you and the countless lives you touched.
Though your loss leaves a void in the hearts of your family, colleagues, and community, your life’s example shines as a beacon of hope and sacrifice. We honor you, Officer Islam, for answering the call, for saying, “Here am I, send me,” and for giving everything to keep us safe. Rest in peace, knowing your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As a South Asian, I feel proud that a man who emigrated to the USA from here adopted his new country so completely as to lay down his life to protect it's people. Salute Officer Islam
